KU is providing scientific and community engagement expertise to a statewide coalition working to make Kansas a regional hub in the emerging hydrogen economy.
Developing clean energy, driving economic growth
A coalition of Kansas public and private partners has applied for federal funding to make Kansas a regional hub in the emerging hydrogen economy.
HARVEST Hydrogen Inc. and two subrecipients -- the University of Kansas and a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources -- have applied for funding through the federal Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs Program, which seeks to empower states to develop regional clean hydrogen hubs.
If awarded funding, HARVEST and its partner organizations will work to deploy a multi-billion-dollar program to establish regional networks of hydrogen producers, consumers and infrastructure — all toward the goal of building a robust hydrogen-based energy sector that generates sustainable power and economic growth for Kansas communities.
KU will help lead the coalition's work through the university's Kansas Geological Survey, Office of Economic Development and Office of Research.
